Slow next photo browsing

Postby joema on Mon Mar 26, 2012 6:38 pm

Using FPV Pro 1.7 ver. 244. Browsing 5MB .jpg photos takes 2-3 seconds to display the next photo (e.g pressing right arrow key). I've tried "Enable automatic image preloading" and "Enable parallel image loading" on and off. I also tried various "less/more" pre-loading slider settings, to no avail.

Is this normal, or is there a config option to make it faster? Picasa viewer on the same machine takes about 0.1 sec to change photos.

FPV is on a 10,000 rpm SATA drive, the photos are on a separate RAID 0 array.

Data disk: 2 x 1.5TB Barracuda, 7200 rpm SATA, RAID 0

No 2-3s is not normal. With preloading on, the time-to-next-image is essentially zero. Your system specs look good, not sure what's going on on this computer.

For 5MB-ish images (I assume 10-12MP) I recommend that you set the preload slider to about 1/3 of the range, with preloading on, and since your disks seems fast you can probably enable the parallel loading option.

In fact all these options are best left to their default. They exist to accommodate very atypical cases such as huge images (think 100MP+) or ultrafast scrolling of small images (think 30 per second, when disk bandwidth permits).

For most uses the default settings are fine.
