When you install and use the codec pack does it:

1. Create a special directory and thumbnail file for all the photo files?
I have one 1 TB hard drive that has over 10,000 images!

2. Leave all files and thumbnails in the existing directories?

3. Create a new thumbnail file for every photo file, adding mb's of new thumbnail files?

The thumbnail cache is an operating system feature and has very little to do with the codecs themselves. The actual anwser to the questions you asked depends on the operating system version that you use: XP scatters thumbs.db in image folders and Vista or later use a central database most of the time.

Adding codecs just enables more formats to be recognized but does not change the operating system behavior and policies in any way. Finally, 10'000 images is not that many, our large test set has 270'000 pictures and some of our customers have many more! I'd not worry too much about those small technical details if I were you, be assured that our codecs are robust and won't compromize the computer's stability, regardless of the number of images stored on your drives 8-)
