Roadmap

Planned for 2009 2010 (to appear in FastPictureViewer, in no particular order)

  • Pro: IPTC metadata editor with templates.
  • Pro: Keywording/tagging function (based on a keyword dictionary, e.g. CVKC).
  • Pro: Web/FTP publishing (simple image upload through plug-ins).
  • Pro: GPS coordinates display for geotagged images.
  • Pro: Filtered views (like "show only 5 star images", etc).
  • Pro: File export plug-in with save-as functionality.
  • Pro: File utilities plug-in with batch copy/move/delete.
  • Better resampling algorithm for users unable to use hardware acceleration..
  • Large head-up-display showing XMP information such as rating and color labels.
  • Recently used folder list for image folder and keep/copy folders.
  • Thumbnail strip (for Vista and Win7 only. Just shows a few images before/after current).
  • Rename current image function (pro: with custom renaming templates).
  • Thumbnail preview in quick navigation slider (for Vista and Win7 only).
  • Native x64 versions with identical functionality including MTP/PTP tethering support.
The striked-through items are implemented and currently shipping. The program will also get translated to more western and eastern languages but will not expand much beyond the above features, in particular no image management, thumbnail database or indexing/cataloguing functions will be added.

First glimpse at v2.0: Windows 7 (or later) only: the program will be rebuilt to use Win7 native technologies such as Direct3D 10/11, Direct2D and DirectWrite. It will perhaps run on Vista too. A new "tiled" display engine will be developed, to circumvent driver or graphic card size limitations and allow much larger images in video memory than today. The "classic", non-GPU display mode will be dropped and the program will operate only in hardware-accelerated mode, on a broader range of configurations than today. The spirit and overall look and feel of the program should stay more or less the same: it can be seen as a native, Windows 7 -specific version taking full advantage of the technology improvements introduced this new platform for even greater speed. ETA: late 2010 - early 2011 in some preliminary form; v1.x will be maintained at least until v2.0 ships in final form.
