Be sure to exclude the image folders from being scanned by your AV. You can also put FastPictureViewer.exe on the exclusion list of your AV scanner, in order to prevent the anti-virus from scanning all images opened by the program. OK so when experimenting with windows photo viewer I notice that images display pretty much instantly. Certainly, disabling GPU support speeds things up in FPV, which suggests this could be an x64 graphics driver issue.

I've also disabled the sub folder image search option, I don't know why this is default on, as I find it extremely confusing when the program opens up images in subfolders.

i have nvidia 9600GT
pictureviewer @ 32bit gpu support worked fine,
my card works fine in 64bit when using other applications having such gpu support, i find it very odd
would be nice to resolve this hence im back using my internal viewer again with dopus, i lost all juice for fpv when switching to 64bit =(

It does rather suggest there's a bottleneck with loading data into the graphics card, particularly noticeable for large images. I wish there was some diagnostic utility that could be created to check the data throughput rates with large jpgs so that we can have some kind of benchmark.

I'm getting good performance now with GPU off, although it does give my cpu a REALLY good workout, but luckily with i7 overclocked I've got enough juice.
