Concepts

The Keep/Copy function is an essential feature of FastPictureViewer Professional. The idea is to set up a folder for your "keepers," or those images that successfully pass through the culling process and that you choose to keep and modify further.

Once the Keep/Copy folder is set up, simply pressing a key will add the current image to the folder and mark that image as "copied" with a visible on-screen watermark. You can later change your mind and undo the operation.

If desired, you can quit the program and resume your session by selecting the same image folder and the same Keep/Copy folder. The "copied" marks will still be associated with your images, and it won't be too late to undo a copy operation.

The actual file copy is performed in the background, so you don't have to wait for it to complete before reviewing the next image in line. The copy operation happens instantaneously, regardless of the size of your RAW files.

You can also move files rather than copy them. Once moved, an image disappears from the current image list being viewed. Move operations cannot be undone directly from FastPictureViewer. However, you can always move files back using Windows Explorer.

The Keep/Copy function is aware of the RAW+JPEG stacking feature of the application and will copy/move all files within a stack. That includes JPEG and the corresponding RAW as well as any WAV audio annotation and/or XMP sidecars that may reside in the stack.

How To

Press the K key to copy an image to the Keep/Copy folder and Shift+K to undo a previous copy operation. If no Keep/Copy folder was defined, the program will ask for the destination. The selected Keep/Copy folder stays current for the entire session or until it is changed.

If desired, the application can automatically reuse the last Keep/Copy folder upon application startup. You can configure this behavior in program options.

You can display the Keep/Copy folder picker using the Ctrl+A keyboard shortcut. This operating system-provided window does not show any files, only folders. The Ctrl+A keystroke was chosen for its ease of access on most keyboards.

You can also access the Keep/Copy folder picker through the application's menu. Just click the "Menu" button on the taskbar and you will find a "Keep/Copy" button. Right-click the button to display a context menu with a list of recently used Keep/Copy folders. This makes it easy to reuse any folder.

You can launch a Windows Explorer window on the current Keep/Copy folder by entering Shift+Ctrl+E.
