Black and white filter (desaturate)

A long shot, but immensely useful for digital B&W photography:

An option that, when toggled on, display images in grayscale. The desaturation algorithm does not have to have anything fancy. (Having the standard algorithms in GIMP are already very useful at capture time.)

This sounds like a great idea: the black-and-white preview.
