Find out what image formats are currently supported by FastPictureViewer.

FastPictureViewer's supports a number of file formats, depending on its edition. The freeware Home Basic edition supports the ubiquitous JPEG image format along with the new Microsoft HD Photo / JPEG-XR all-encompassing image format, which features lossy and lossless compression from 1 bit/pixel to 128. The Home Premium edition adds support for common Windows and Web image formats (PNG, GIF, BMP, ICO) while the Professional Edition supports TIFF and select camera RAW previewing. The current formats compatibility is detailed in the table below and it likely to be extended over time.

() Please also see the codec's supplier system requirements. (*) We are constantly looking to expand the file format support. Please check back from time to time to see if the format you are interested in becomes supported by FastPictureViewer. Starting with FastPictureViewer Professional Edition 1.0.27.0, all WIC codecs are loaded and used so the formats will be recognized, however some formats require special treatments (e.g. for preview image handling or metadata reading/writing abilities). Those who are not explicitly handled are conservatively listed as not available (n/a) despite the fact that the formats will be recognized and (most certainly) displayed without problems. Support for more image format through 3rd party WIC codecs for the Professional edition is currently being investigated from both a technical and licensing/redistribution standpoint. Formats under consideration includes DICOM, J2K, Targa and Photoshop's PSD.
